I wanted to share a piece I finished this weekend called “No Time for Love,” and show you a little behind-the-scenes action of what went into making it.
I love how there are so many layers and details waiting to be discovered.
To make this piece I began by adhering different textures and images to a wooden base that I prepped with gesso. I then added texture paste using stencils.
Next I gave the whole thing a light wash of gesso mixed with water. Then I covered a few strategic areas with matte medium so I could keep these visible by wiping off the paint layers.
The fun part was next. I added layer upon layer of paint. I didn’t worry about the quality of paint. Some was “the good stuff,” while other paint was basic craft paint.
I also made marks with rubber stamps, pens and rub-ons at different intervals.
I used a big-ass load of embossing powder to cover the heart and clock hands with many layers and to create a frame for the piece.
After adhering the heart and clock hands, I used a marker to create a shadow beneath the hands.
I am pretty happy with how this piece turned out. I have been working at taking techniques I learned from Seth Apter and incorporating them into my own style.
