Guess who’s coming to dinner?

Guess who’s coming to dinner?

I have to admit, the art I am sharing with you this week tickles my funny bone. Perhaps some think art should not have levity, but I disagree. I believe art needs to bring some of the elements that humans most need in their lives: beauty, inspiration, insight, a glimpse of God, relaxation and humor.

Of course you know I’m picking the funny route.

So for this piece I turned a miniature tin into a wooden crate containing fish that someone ordered for their dinner party.

Except the fish, wearing hats, drinking martinis and blowing party horns, might not be what was expected. Even the clown fish are a little different.

The tin contains an accordion fold paper with five panels.

I create a mixed media scene on both sides of each of the five panels.

To learn how to make this, please visit the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog.

But wait–there’s more! To entice you to visit my shop, I am offering an entire sheet of colorful high resolution fish as a free download. Just place it into the shopping cart and download it for free. I hope you take a minutes to check out my other offerings as well.

Was Lewis Carroll a secret crafter?–an Alice in Wonderland Altered Tin

Becoming a professional crafter has changed my life. Monday mornings? Couldn’t be better! Daily commute? No sweat! I. Love. My. Job.

Admittedly though, it has made me a little odd. I am often going out in public with dyed blue fingers or traces of glitter in my hair. And seriously, who besides me makes frantic dashes to the dollar store before it closes for the night in order to buy cheap dolls to dismember?

Ummmm…Apparently several of you. When I asked fellow Alpha Stamps Design Team Members that question, more than one had done the same thing. One, who shall remain nameless, coughTristancough had bought 12.

Scary.

This is not the first time I have dismembered body parts in the name of crafting…

For my last guest post at Gina’s Designs, I shared one of my favorite kinds of projects: altered tin ornaments.

I’m Betsy Skagen of Paper Calliope, and on this Thanksgiving Eve my heart is filled with gratitude for getting to spend the last month  at Gina’s Designs. It has been a fun and delightful adventure.

I know Halloween hasn’t arrived yet, but I really love making Altoid altered art Christmas ornaments. (Now if I could only figure out how to use up all those mints!).

Please check out my tutorial over at Altered Pages for this Mid Century Retro Altered Art Altoid Tin Christmas Ornament.

What the hell is reflected in that lid????

Could this be craft porn taken to new extremes? I swear I don’t have naked men lounging about my studio admiring reflections of their love rods in my craft supplies. Really I don’t!

How do you know I’m telling the truth? Because if that were happening, there certainly would not be so much crafting going on.
