There was a time during the 1940s to 1970s when some families got to experience the Golden Age of Travel. These were the days of roomy planes with curtained windows and hot meals; luxurious hotels with gloved bellhops; and even wood-paneled stationwagons with kids frolicking unbuckled in the back, while adults navigated empty interstates using a map from the Amoco station.

Ok, truth be told, I don’t remember most of those either. I am not prehistoric after all!.

Since this blog is so new, and lovely readers like you keep gushing flowing trickling in, I have been trying to make certain everyone understands Paper Calliope is different from other craft sites out in blogland. This isn’t some schmarmy marketing ploy. I’m just trying to save everyone from disappointment down the road.

In case you haven’t been paying attention, Paper Calliope features crafting with a sassy twist. Oh yeah, it has a lot about anxiety too, because anxiety is near and not-so-dear to 97 percent* of the sensitive souls a.k.a. artists in the world.

Don’t worry. I’m still going to share my mixed media panic attack story with you. The last thing I want to do is add more anxiety to your life by creating undue anticipation. However, this simply could not wait.

That is a problem because I am trying to find the right balance between topics. Paper Calliope is mainly about the art of mixed media, altered art and paper crafting. However, at last count, there were one million and forty-seven crafting blogs. Trust me on this. I know. I counted.* We don’t need one million and forty-eight.

That’s why I want to bring a fresh approach by recognizing how both the act of creating and the beauty of finished art brings calm, joy and inspiration to our anxiety-ridden lives.
