Ready. Set. Lights! It is time for a little Steampunk Fashion show.
I wanted to share my latest mixed media piece, “Dressed to a T.” It combines Steampunk, Mixed Media and some fun play on words.
Here’s a little that went into the making of it: I laid out a variety of letters, numbers and hardware pieces that I have accumulated over the years on the back wall of a chipboard house.
I then assembled the house and secured the letters with glue and modeling paste. When dry, I added in some faux snow for texture.
Next I added multiple layers of acrylic paint using a distressed dry brush. I also blended some of the layers with baby wipes. I painted the roof and back of the house using the same technique.
I then embossed some of the hardware with Seth Apter’s Rocky Road and Vintage Beeswax embossing powders.
I accentuated the pieces of hardware I didn’t emboss with black ink and gold and silver paint pens.
After assembling the roof, I added in a rusty spring, miniature lantern and a fashionista from my vintage papers. I also made runway lights from small hardware pieces and marbles.
