The best things come in tiny packages

The best things come in tiny packages

I love making art journals, junk journals and other forms of books. However, embarking on one of these is always a huge time-consuming project…or at least it was until I discovered the joy of making tiny art journals.

It was easy to make a complete journal in an evening. What’s more, the finished project is just so much fun.

You can make the inside pages from just one side of a single sheet of paper.

The pages include lots of delicious layers of ink and paint created with stencils, rubber stamps and freehand.

I purposefully chose to add random collage images to add to the eclectic feel of the album.

To make your own mini album, begin by cutting a chipboard cover with the Eileen Hull a needle book die.

Also cut decorative paper for the interior and exterior of the cover. And adhere the exterior paper with a strong adhesive. I used Eileen’s Redliner Tape.

Using a utility knife, dig out a circle in the cover chipboard and embed a micro magnet using a strong adhesive such as Beacon Fabri-Tac. Add decorative paper to the inside of the cover. Ink all the edges with brown ink.

Add a magnet and two cover papers to the latch and then glue the latch so that the magnets line up. Make sure you have the magnets facing the right direction so they don’t repel each other!

Next, adhere an assortment vintage papers to a sheet of mixed media paper. After it dries, lightly ink the surface with brown ink.

Now comes the fun part. Use stencils to paint on images. After the paint dries, add more layers by rubber stamping background images. Then add additional marks with pens and pencils.

Cut and fold the paper into book pages and trim to fit the needle book. Glue the two end pages to the inside front and back cover.

Adhere your collage images to the inside pages. Then add collage images to the front cover–adding dimension with foam adhesive and embellishments– and your miniature art journal is ready to go!
